Diwali is one of India's major religious festivals. It is the festival of lights, representing the victory of light over darkness. (Between October to November) This year, the third day of Diwali (the main celebration) lands on October 24, 2022.
Diwali is celebrated differently based on region and religion. The main religions who celebrate being Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism. However, the common theme of lighting diyas, a type of lamp, and placing them everywhere is present throughout. Homes and floors are also decorated with Rangoli. These are intricate floral designs that are made from colored sand, powder, rice, and flower petals. Other activities that can be found during the festival include exchanging gifts, wearing new clothes, feasting, crafts, visiting temples, worship, and fireworks. The gods Lakshmi (luhksh·mee) and Ganesh (guh·naysh) are celebrated and worshiped, especially by Hindus. Lakshmi's return home is also recognized, bringing in success and prosperity to everyone.
